CERES and the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) presented reporting awards to five companies for the second annual CERES-ACCA North American Sustainability Reporting Awards at a luncheon in Boston today. Suncor Energy, Inc., a Canadian company, took the top award.
Funding Programs
Aluminum company Alcan has created a USD1 million annual prize to recognize outstanding contributions to the goal of sustainable development made by not-for-profit groups. The prize is open to all not-for-profit, non-governmental, civil society organizations that have 'made and continue to make significant contributions that integrate economic, environmental and social sustainability for the benefit of present and future generations'.

The Alcan Prize for Sustainability is a US$1 million prize competition to be awarded each year to not-for-profit, non-governmental, and civil society organizations that are working diligently to make our world a better place. Alcan provides the funding but has entrusted the decision-making to the world's leading proponents of sustainable development.

This Alliance Global Sustainability brings together research teams from 4 of the world's foremost research universities to study large-scale, multidisciplinary environmental problems that are faced by the world's ecosystems, economies, and societies.

SCI programs and policies will respond effectively to the real limits of ecological systems while fostering the unprecedented opportunities of a democratic society in which all people are able to develop to their fullest potential.
